It was Guru Purnima mahotsav of 2008 at Ahmedabad.A sea of humanity was waiting intently to listen to the nectar from Pujya Bapuji. 

At 0930 hrs a sadhak ,almost half dead with grevious injuries, comes running to the ashram panting.The horror was yet to unfold.

He reveals mobs are attacking sadhaks who are coming for Guru poonam with stones , swords & other weapons.Many are badly wounded,vehicles are being torched,women are being molested.Despite this repeated calls for maintaining peace was given by Pujya Bapuji. 

News comes in that rioters have intruded in to the Mahila Ashram . It is written in the scriptures that these 6 types of terrorists must be put to death immediatley & no sin occurs - they are -: 1) a poison giver, 2) one who sets fire to the house, 3) one who attacks with deadly weapons, 4) one who plunders riches, 5) one who occupies another's land, and 6) one who kidnaps women. Such aggressors are at once to be killed, and no sin is incurred by killing such aggressors.

क्षेत्रदारहरश्चैव षडेते आततायिनः ॥

Thus to protect the the sadhika sisters & other sadhaks who were stranded , sadhaks armed with only wooden sticks move ahead . they manage to get hold of 2 rioters , who on interrogation later reveal that they were paid Rs 200 each & liquor & were asked to vandalize ashram property .

It all began 15 days back when on the night of 3 July 2008 cousins Dipesh Vaghela (10) and Abhishek Vaghela (11) went missing from Gurukul .Dipesh Vaghela and Abhishek Vaghela, in their pre-teens, had been enrolled as ’shishyas’ (students) in 5th and 6th classes at the Gurukul (residential school) in June. On July 3, in the night roll call after dinner they were missing. The boys were keen, according to other boys, to go to enjoy fun at ’rath yatra’ the next day. So, after the parents denied their having returned home, teams were sent to search for them in the city. The police advised them to wait for a day to lodge missing persons’ complaint as such children usually return on their own. Two days later, their bodies were sighted in disfigured condition deep on the river bed. Ashram authorities called the police and the post mortem report indicated death by accidental drowning – not a rare occurrence in the river.

Uday Sanghani, Asharamji Gurukul spokesperson stated, “we have been looking for them. When some of their friends told us that the two boys were very keen to see the ’rath yatra’, we searched for them in the ’yatra’ too…. They (police) refused to register a case immediately when we reported about the two boys who went missing from the Gurukul. They told us to wait for a day.”

The Gurukul authorities got into action immediately on getting the doubt that two of the Gurukul inmates are missing. On 4th July 2008, at around 11 a.m. in the morning, the Gurukul coordinator, along with the parents of missing children, went to the ChaandKhera Outpost and Adaalaja Police Station to lodge an FIR for the matter. The Police officials dissuaded the authorities from lodging an FIR, suggesting that the kids may have gone to see the Rathyatra or any nearby place, and should come back on their own. With due approval from the parents, the FIR was not registered.

Nevertheless, a team of 50-60 sevadhaaris was sent out to the RathYatra to search the missing kids. In addition to this, teams were also sent to railway station and bus Depot. Hence, the allegations of not cooperating are totally unjustified and baseless.

Ashram authorities had never requested anyone to abstain from reporting this matter to media. On the contrary, the authorities themselves were using media to good effect in order to find the missing children. Pictures of the missing boys were published in a news paper. The news of the also broadcasted on Citi cable and Doordarshan.

As for the delay in lodging the FIR, the Gurukul coordinator had gone to the Police station on 3rd July itself. But, the on duty officer suggested waiting for some time, and checking with the relatives of the missing boys. It was on insistence from the parents that an FIR was lodged. Gurukul coordinator was accompanying the parents at that time.

To avoid the strict surveillance at the main gate of Ashram, the boys must have chosen to escape from the backside, which is close to the river. As a result, this unfortunate incidence happened. On 5th July 2008 the authorities were informed of their dead bodies found in a drowned state, around 2-2.5 KM away from the Ashram compound. The birds and animals were pecking at the dead bodies. The local people, staying nearby the Ashram, had spotted the dead bodies even before Ashram got any news on the matter. Out of panic, the local people did not inform the Police. During Police investigation, this fact also came forward. Ashram helped the Police in every possible way, but still they are being accused of not cooperating.

According to Police, in case of death by drowning, because of remaining under water 2-3 days, the body swells and starts floating on the surface. This is clearly evident in this case. A crowd had gathered around the dead bodies, and seeing this crowd a visitor got the news of some dead bodies found near the Ashram compound. He later informed the Ashram authorities of this, and the matter was reported to Police. The Police then took the custody of the dead bodies.
When Police took charge of the dead bodies, they were in a decomposed state and pecked at by birds and animals.

When Bapuji was informed of this unfortunate incident He paid his condolences for the deceased and all the Ashramites and Sadhaks to read the seventh chapter of Gita for peace to the departed souls. Thereafter sadhaks from different places in Gujarat prayed for the peace of the departed soul.

                       

                                  

Pujya Bapuji can be heard telling parents of dead gurukul boys “I will not tolerate if there is somebody’s wrong hand in the death of the boys. Dead boys were my children too. They were your children bodily, but my children by heart.”

SUSPICIOUS & CONFLICTING BEHAVIOUR OF THE PARENTS

Interestingly, the Vaghelas live in Nirnay Nagar, a shoddy township predominantly inhabited by lower middle class, hardly five kilometres from the Gurukul premises. It is not known why the boys had to be sent off to live in the hostel, when most children commute to far-off schools.

The other parent, Shantilal Vaghela, Abhishek’s father, was not that sure about the black magic theory and said, “someone from the ashram might have persuaded the boys to venture out of the ashram.”

From the way Praful vividly explained things, he is apparently well versed in black magic tactics. If such skullduggery was indeed practiced, it is a little far-fetched that he was not aware of facilities/life obtaining at a place so nearby. Obviously, the family needs to be investigated thoroughly to solve the mystery. Even before probing certain as-yet-unanswered questions about the mystery, Praful Vaghela went on a ’fast unto death’ demanding closing down of the ashram, possibly to ward off interrogation.

Interestingly as soon as the Praful demanded a CBI inquiry into this matter a unregistered, unrecognized outfit Jagega Gujarat Sangharsh Samiti came forward to support & announced two strikes in Ahmedabad and Gujarat.Even very active, experienced and senior journalists in Ahmedabad had never heard about Jagega Gujarat Sangharsh Samiti before Asharam ji Bapu gurukul’s two boys mysterious death issue came into limelight.

Gujarat merchant chamber president Prakashbhai Kapadia, owing allegiance to the Union textiles minister, said that the closure would be observed “without any compulsion and its effect will be felt all over Gujarat!” This claim can have no takers as Ahmedabad bandh was supported by Gujarat auto-rickshaw drivers’ action committee – a move obviously intended to harass and provoke the milling crowds visiting the city and incite violence.

DeshGujarat investigated in this issue to know basic truth about this outfit whose strike calls resulted in torching of more than 40 vehicles, stone pelting at several places, closure of trade worth millions, and dozens of people injured in Ahmedabad. Interestingly, both strike calls announced by this outfit were supported by Congress party. And when we looked deeper into the organizational structure of Jagega Gujarat Sangharsh Samiti, we found this outfit not only Congress supported one but more or less like a mask and Congress party behind it.

Vice president of Jagega Gujarat Sangharsh Samiti is Mr. Naresh Shah who is secretary of Gujarat Pradesh youth Congress. On his visiting card, his office address is shown as Rajeev Gandhi Bhavan, behind V.S. hospital, Paldi, Ahmedabad 7 which is a Gujarat Congress headquarter address. General Secretary of this outfit Mr. Nirav Bakshi is also former General Secretary of NSUI which is a student wing of Congress party. Nirav Bakshi is son of Congress corporater Surendra Bakshi who is leader of opposition in Ahmedabad muncipal Corporation. Gujarat Congress vice president Ashok Punjabi has been appointed as an adviser of this outfit recently after rickshaw union under his leadership supported the strike calls.

However president of Jagega Gujarat Prakash Kapadiya who has import-export business claims his outfit is non-political. President of another self-created body ‘Gujarat merchant chamber’ Kapadiya says, he himself bared the expenses of 1,30,000 Rs. newspaper advertisements for announcement of strike. He claims he does this only for social cause. He also claims that Narendra Modi does get frightened by his name because of his high voltage public movements such as Octroi abolishment and Asaram issue where government had to succumb. Meeting between governor of Gujarat and Asaram Bapu gurukul’s two dead boys’ parents was also organized by Kapadiya. Kapadiya is not happy with the recent decision of dead boys parents to meet the chief minister to end indefinite fast without getting their demand of CBI probe fulfilled. Parents of dead boys had earlier even not supported Gujarat wide strike call announced by Jagega Gujarat Sangharsh Samiti. Gujarat wide strike call was a failure out of Ahmedabad.

Jagega Gujarat sangharsh samiti is going to organize a press conference on Sunday. Latest demand of this outfit is to kick out Asaram ashram from Ahmedabad and Gujarat! Interestingly this latest demand was originally coined out recently in a Gujarati column by famous columnist whose proximity with Congress is decades long and undoubted. His book was inaugurated by Congress president’s political advisor.

Interestingly, a grand rehearsal of the ’Guru Purnima’ shutdown was organised on July 16. The rally started in Nirnay Nagar and culminated at the Gandhi Ashram. Participants, mostly belonging to the Kshatriya community and Vaghela clan, raised provocative slogans and carried placards demanding the CM’s resignation! One Ajit Gohil, vice-president of the community body was reported as declaring, “we have no faith in the government investigation agency. Our demand is that the case should be investigated by the CBI, as Asaram Bapu can easily manipulate the state police.” It was clearly a turf war and an anti-Modi show.

Except taking out a silent rally on July 13 to mourn the 10th day of the tragedy and allegations heaped on their Guru, followers of the Bapuji had refused to be provoked. On July 18, Asharamji Bapu addressed the huge gathering at the Ashram, which had braved violent mobs unleashed by Vaghela’s men. He told his audience that even Guru Gobind Singh and Prophet Mohammed had urged their following not to take blasphemous insults lying down.

On 26 November 2009 ,thursday, a peaceful rally was taken out in Gandhi Nagar against the false & slanderous reporting by Sandesh Newspaper , consisting of women mostly. All the necessary permissions were taken , a delegation went inside to give a a memorandum to the collector at the same time police started lathi charging the peaceful people collected outside the office,even women were not spared ,People were randomly held & pushed into police trucks.

Eyewitness said that the anti-social elements were present in the rally under the garb of sadhaks. Those women were frequently talking suspiciously on the mobile phone while the rally was going on , & they vanished when the rally reached its end.

Just a few days before the rally swords & other weapons were obtained from office of Sandesh paper but the raid was done at Ashram.

Breaking ALL boundaries of vandalism, the act of violence that was executed by the police at Ashram, was terrifying.

The rally in protest against the Sandesh newspaper saw their own miscreants getting into the crowd and instigating the people to pelt stones at the police. In the resulting violence that ensued, some senior police officials and other policemen were injured.

One or two senior officials also suffered some major head injuries in the clash with the crowd. The revenge for this act was inflicted by the police on the same day when they brutally assaulted about 300 to 400 participants in the rally. About 236 people were arrested, including people who were admitted to hospital after being injured in the police lathi charge. The people admitted in hospital were also not spared and were picked up by the police after preliminary first aid. Legal Section 307 relating to murder was also imposed on them.

But the senior police officers were still not satisfied even after inflicting such brutalities on the people who believed in Hindu religion and culture and were devoted to their spiritual Master. In their rage they stormed the Ashram of Pujya Bapuji late in the afternoon. A large contingent of nearly 150 policemen was deployed. Whoever was found in the Ashram, was beaten up with lathis, sticks, shoes and rifle butts. People were chased and they were bundled off in half a dozen large police vans. All glass windows were smashed unnecessarily.

Some sadhaks had closed the doors of their rooms out of fear. Their rooms were broken into and the sadhaks were taken away while being mercilessly beaten with sticks. Even elderly sadhaks who had come to Ashram from outside for anushthhaan were not spared. The room of one of the sadhaks, who was doing saadhna in the Maun Mandir for a week, was also broken into, and he was dragged away by the police by the hair.

Such was the nature of police brutality that they even opened fire to terrorize the sadhaks, who were running towards the river to save themselves. The entire operation of the police on the peaceful Ashram of a saint lasted for about one and-a-half to two hours. Every nook and corner of the Ashram was searched people were pushed into large police vans kept prepared.

The incident did not end here. About 10 to 12 children and elderly sadhaks were released from the place where all these people were taken (possibly due to legal implications).

All along the way, the policemen positioned themselves on both the sides and armed with sticks, assaulted the arrested people saying that their senior officer had to have 10 stitches in the head (during the rally).
The vengeance of the ten stitches on their senior police officer’s head was taken on numerous innocent sadhaks by the inhuman policemen. It appeared as though these police officers were keen to please and display their loyalty to the senior officers through such malevolent acts.

The architect of these entire heart rending scenes was “Sandesh” newspaper. Sandesh newspaper has been exposed to the public recently in a sting operation CD named “Sajish ka Pardafash” for directly conspiring for many years in nefarious activities and acts of defamation against Pujya Bapuji.
Through its unscrupulous and scheming ways, Sandesh created unrest in the rally and pitched the police against the Ashram. Using its financial and political influence to save its existence, Sandesh thus planned and executed the entire incident.

The atrocious behaviour of the police in today’s civilized society is a stigma on the name of humanity. No condemnation can be too high for this brutal act.

Stern action should be taken without delay against the guilty. The clandestine role of the owners of “Sandesh” newspaper involved in secretly conspiring against the Ashram should also be investigated.

Hordes of enthusiastic photographers and reporters from the electronic and print media were on the spot to cover the entire event of police terror, which was broadcast live not only in India, but internationally as well. Else, this heinous act would have remained unknown and overlooked by all.

Chhindwara Gurukul Deaths

On 29 July 2008 , 4 year old Ramkrishna was found dead in the Chhindwara Gurukul bathroom & 2 days later another boy Vedant was found dead in almost the same mysterious circumstances.

Investigations have revealed that the accused(Rituraj) had taken admission to Asaram’s Gurukul only 20 days ago along with two of his cousins. Within a short period he had asked his father to withdraw him from the residential school as he was home-sick and wanted to return to his mother.Apparently he didnot like the dhyana, pranayam , yogic activities & saatvik food of the Gurukul

Psychiatric treatment

Significantly, he had undergone psychiatric treatment at Nagpur in the past. He purportedly told the police during cross-examination that he was missing home food.. When the accused heard about the death of two students and the closure of Asaram Bapu’s Ashram in Ahemdabad, he thought even his school would be closed if something like that happened in his institution.

He told the police that he had seen on television how a person could be asphyxiated and killed. The boys’ hostel in the ashram is a two-story building. 

Modus Operandi

The younger children, from nursery to the fifth grade, were staying in the ground floor while the senior students were occupying the first floor.Every evening the children went out to play between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. It was close to 6 p.m. on July 29 that the accused hid near the toilet on the ground floor and when a five-year-old child arrived there, he took him inside the toilet on the pretext of offering chocolates and once there tried to overpower him but the boy managed to escape. Soon another boy was caught by him and was gagged to death inside the toilet.

This murder remained a mystery for two days, and since the school did not shut down, another murder was planned by the accused when he heard some teachers saying that the school would be closed if another boy died under the prevailing circumstances. This led to the murder of Vedanta on July 31. Vedanta struggled for life and the accused even bit his left rear shoulder during the fight.

During post-mortem, a suspect’s teeth imprint matched with the wound on the left rear shoulder of the body and this led to his arrest.

The Hindu reports

Putting to rest speculations on the mysterious death of two boys in Asaram Bapu’s school here, police on Sunday claimed that a Class IX student killed his hostel mates. Inspector General of Police M.R. Krishna told reporters that Ram and Vedant were killed by the accused, who gagged the boys in the toilet. Ram was killed on July 29 and Vedant on July 31. The deaths had sparked off protests across the State.

“The student has been identified and has admitted to killing Ram Krishna Yadav and Vedant Manmodhe in the hostel’s bathroom,” IGPM. R. Krishna told reporters while claiming to have solved the murder mystery in the ashram school.

“Ram was killed on July 29 while Vedant was murdered on July 31 by the accused, who after calling the minors to the toilet to give them chocolates took their lives by gagging them,” he said.

In Vedant’s case, after killing him, the accused put Vedant’s head into a bucket full of water. The accused had also bitten Vedant on his neck and police after conducting the forensic examination found that the mark was of the teeth of the accused following which he was arrested.

The accused, who took admission in the school this year, didn’t want to study and wanted to go back to his native place in Chhindwara district, police said.

Chhindwara Gurkul is one of the top schools of the area & has seen numerous attempts by christian missionaries to have it shut down.Recently a rumour was spread that 100s of students have commited suicide there .

January 2010 Edition - Dedicated to Eighth Year of Non-Stop Campaign for Hindu Emancipation

I was shocked to watch on all TV channels on 27th November 2009 the barbarous attack and the vandalism of Gujarat Police on the Samabrmati Ashram of Asaram Bapu. I started wondering whether we are living in a democratic country or under a dictatorship.

I am not a follower of Asaram Bapu, but as a Hindu I revere all Sadhus and Sants. During the course of my profession as Editor of Hindu Voice, I have come across many Sadhaks of Asaram Bapu. I can certify that they can not even hurt a fly, leave alone entering into violence. Then how did the Gujarat police treat them like hardened criminals, beating them mercilessly and dragging them to police van by holding their hair?

 Is the police justified in attacking the Ashram properties – like breaking window panes, doors, etc. – all unlawful acts? Is the police authorised to beat the inmates mercilessly and drag them by holding their hair?

All our fake secularists seem to be enjoying the entire episode because a so called Hindu CM is trying to demolish a Hindu institution. That is why they have not talked of Human Rights Violation, Police brutality, etc. in this case. Otherwise, activists like Teesta Setalwad would have pounced on Narendra Modi immediately. Now they are nowhere to be seen. They are enjoying the weird scene of a so called Hindu CM attacking another Hindu Sadhu and his Ashram, and this is exactly what they want – Hindus to fight among themselves.

Hindu Organisations are maintaining a strange silence. And common Hindus are just dumbfounded. They are not able to understand what and why this is happening.

It is apparent that the Gujrat CM Narendra Modi is following the path of his mentor – Mr. L.K. Advani – i.e. betraying Hindus after getting their votes and coming to power. So far I was holding him in high esteem. I have even written editorials describing him as the modern Sardar Patel – the Iron man of India. But after this attack on Asaram Bapuji’s Ashram and the demolition of hundreds of temples in Ahmedabad earlier, I consider him as a Coward. He seems to select soft targets to establish his secular credentials – probably to get a US visa! He is behaving like a dictator, even with his own followers and supporters. I know, Asaram Bapuji has never talked anything against Narendra Modi. On the contrary, both maintain cordial relations. At least that is what others think. Then why this sudden undeclared war on the Sant and his Ashram?

Has Narendra Modi joined hands with anti-Hindus and Missionaries to finish off Asaram Bapu? What has he (Bapu) done to invite this type of barbaric treatment? Has he (Bapu) done anything against Maa Bharati, Sanatan Hindu Dharm, Hindu Sanskruti, Hindu Unity or Hindus? On the contrary, Bapuji was promoting Sanatan Hindu Dharm through his Ashram. It seems power has gone into his (Modi’s) head and has corrupted him completely. Or, is he playing into Missionaries’ hands?

I am surprised that none of the Hindu Sants and Dharmagurus have raised their voice against the unilateral actions of Narendra Modi and the vandalism of Gujarat Police on Asaram Bapu’s Ashram and the Sadaks. When there was a need, they took the help of Asaram Bapu. When the Dharma Raksha Manch Meeting was held in Mumbai a few months back, Bapuji was the president of that meeting. When such a revered Sant is attacked, how are they remaining silent? Is this the way to show Hindu unity?

 But here is a BJP Chief Minister, frantically trying to prove his secular credentials by antagonising his own vote bank, even when there is no evidence of any crime. If this is not idiocy, what it is? In doing so, Narendra Modi is digging his own grave.

Harassing our Sadhus and Sants is dangerous for any politician. Jayalalitha arrested Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati Swamiji on manufactured charges (Condemning his arrest, Asaram Bapu sat on a Dharna in front of Parliament, along with many other dignitaries). We know her fate now. If she had not done so, she could still be the CM of Tamil Nadu. But the arrogant lady failed to read the writings on the wall. Modi too is following in her footsteps. It is Vinasha Kale Vipareet Bhuddi. May Ishwar give him sadbuddhi..Now the Gujarat CM too, the so called Hindutva Mascot, is harassing Sant Asaram Bapu and vandalising his Sabarmati Ashram.

Rebirth Of RamaKrishna

It is said that one who has unwavering unflinching faith in His Sadguru gets the ultimate benefit . These words came true when the boy Ramakrishna was reborn to his parents with exactly the same face,mannerism & actions etc .He even reponds to his previous name whenever called out.

I was present in the satsang in Rohini, Delhi (I dont exactly remember the year , but I was in my B.Sc. First year) It had all rained & it was evening session . All water logging had taken place & we were sitting in the mud , although chairs were also arranged but we dont have the audacity (maryada) to sit on a chair in front of the SadGuru.There Pujya Bapuji had said that the boy who was killed has taken birth on this Earth.Thunderous clapping & sounds of sadho- sadho reverberated in the pandal.

Gandhinagar court acquits all 244 supporters of Asaram in police scuffle case 

The district and sessions court in Gandhinagar today acquitted all the over 200 accused and supporters of jailed Asaram Bapu in a case of alleged attack over police during a rally in 2009.

The court not only acquitted the 244 accused for the lack of evidence but also snubbed the police for its style of functioning with regard to the case lodged under the section pertaining to rioting and attempt to murder.

A rally by the Asaram supporters against raid on their Ashram and alleged harassment of sadhaks was organized outside the collectorate and DGP office here during which a scuffle between the police and them allegedly took place. More than 200 supporters of Asaram were arrested after their demonstration and were even jailed for around 3 months.

The police had claimed that 27 people with at least 20 police personnel were injured in the incident, including the then SP of Gandhinagar Piyush Patel and DySP KC Chudasma. The police had to lob teargas shells to disperse the violent mob. Inspector of Sector 7 police station and many other PSIs were also injured.

Three of Asaram supporters Kundan Javle, Maulik Gupta and Parmatma Mishra -who got injured in the incident were admitted to the Sal Hospital.

The statements of 122 witnesses were recorded during the course of the trial.

The court in its observation today said that there were many anomalies in the charge-sheet. The injury reports were also seemingly not correct.
